Re: Friends of the Scala, Prestatyn

The Friends of the Scala have been very actively engaged in saving their local cinema for the past six years. Prestatyn is the North Wales home of Pontins Holiday Village, and the northernmost end of the Offa’s Dyke Path, with many thousands of tourists visiting the town every year.

I am presently working with youth groups in the town with the intention of forming an umbrella group to coordinate provision and support for young people, and the organisations who serve them. The Scala has an important role to play in providing a venue for young people to meet and interact with a diverse cross section of other age groups in the town.

The closure of a very popular cinema due to structural defects was a blow to the town, and I admire this group’s efforts to ensure that their dream of having a new cinema and arts centre built in the centre of town becomes a reality.

This high profile project has a key role to play in High Street regeneration, and I hope that the £1.5 million grant from the National Assembly for Wales will help to ensure the success of this eagerly awaited venture.

Yours sincerely

Chris Ruane MP
