Rhyl Journal: Curtain to rise on Prestatyn’s international youth film festival

The curtain will rise this weekend on Prestatyn’s fourth international youth film festival.

The Festival, opened by Chris Ruane, MP for Vale of Clwyd, will showcase the talent of young film makers from the area and from abroad.

Under the theme – “The Younger Point of View” – a special session will be held showing films made by young people living in Gaza, followed by an audience discussion.

Natalie Jones, who runs the Scala’s Youth Film academy, said: “The Scala International Youth Film Festival is an opportunity to showcase the local films and also see what young film makers are doing in other countries.”

Cecilia Priday, the Scala’s education and events manager, added:

“The festival is the perfect platform for young people to show the community the amazing creativity that takes place here in North Wales.”

During the festival there will be films from youth film festivals in Croatia, Berlin, Italy, America, Ireland and many more.

Cllr Janet Szabo, Mayor of Prestatyn and Meliden, will meet filmmakers and present prizes.

Rhiannon Hughes, chairman of the festival, said: “The festival is the culmination of the work which goes on throughout the year at the Scala.”

“The weekly Youth Film Academy is going from strength to strength, and our links with other film festivals all over Europe are growing and developing.”

Festival activities will run from 10am until 6pm on Saturday with tickets and programmes available from the Scala.
