A project manager has been appointed to drive forward the ambitious redevelopment of the Scala Cinema, Prestatyn.

Catrin Jones has joined Denbighshire County Council, having worked with a national consultancy company as an education consultant working with schools, local authorities and colleges across Wales. Catrin has also worked within the voluntary and community sectors, developing innovative projects that supported people with disabilities to access employment, training and education. She also worked as post 16 Senior Manager with ELWa, based in Denbighshire.

A fluent Welsh speaker, Catrin lives in Trefnant.

Catrin said:

“This is a really exciting opportunity. I’m looking forward to working with the people of Prestatyn and the Friends of the Scala group to make the arts accessible and fun. The Scala will be a great way of getting people together to enjoy all that the theatre, cinema and the arts can offer.

“We now need to identify a board of directors to oversee the future running of the Scala . We need people with a variety of different skills and qualities, they will be instrumental in the success of the Scala and will need to be committed and dedicated. It will be a very rewarding and exciting role.”

Councillor Sue Roberts, Cabinet Lead Member for Promoting Denbighshire, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Catrin to Denbighshire. She brings to the job extensive experience and a wide variety of skills and I’m sure she’ll be a great asset to the Scala redevelopment project.

“This really is an exciting time in the history of the Scala. The former cinema building is to have a new lease of life through a £3.4m project to provide a new cinema and conference facility, along with a multi purpose performance space, meeting and education rooms, a gallery, Tourism Information Centre, a cafe and bar.”

If anyone is interested in becoming a member of the Board of Directors for the Scala and would like further information, Catrin can be contacted on (01824) 706253.
