DCC: Contractor chosen to build the Scala

A Colwyn Bay firm have been chosen to build the new £3.5m Scala Cinema and Arts Centre, Prestatyn.

R.L. Davies Ltd will perform the renovation work on the derelict building, which was closed six years ago due to structural problems. A funding package for the Scala was secured by Denbighshire and its partners, including Prestatyn Town Council, in January.

Cllr Sue Roberts, Cabinet Lead Member for Promoting Denbighshire, said:

“It has taken us six years to get to this stage with the Scala, and I am delighted that a local North Wales based contractor has been awarded the contract. “I am sure that R.L. Davies and the design team will do a great job transforming this derelict building and site into something that people of Prestatyn can be proud of.”

Cllr Sharon Frobisher, Mayor of Prestatyn, said:

“As a major partner in this scheme, Prestatyn Town Council are also pleased that jobs will be provided for people from North Wales during the construction of the new Scala.”

Dave Bellfield from R.L. Davies, said:

“We are delighted to have secured the contract to build the new Scala Cinema and Arts Centre, as we know how much this scheme means to the people of Prestatyn.”
