Work towards progressing the development the former Prestatyn cinema, the Scala, into an arts centre is moving on apace following a successful bid by Denbighshire for a £1.5m Welsh Assembly Grant.
Since the announcement of the grant Denbighshire has agreed to look at ways of match funding the money with a contribution from the council, a request for the town council to increase its contribution and applications to the Foundation for Sport and Arts and to npower.
The Welsh Development Agency has indicated that funding could be made available and on the strength of this a tender has gone out for work which includes the demolition of the fly tower, site clearance and underground drainage. If the WDA grant is approved work could start in January.
Work will soon be visible on site when a drilling rig is set up to carry out bore hole tests.
No decision has been made by Denbighshire as yet about its representation on the proposed Scala Charitable Trust.
